President Barack Obama quickly named Merrick Garland, then 63, to fill the seat. Garland had long been considered a prime prospect for the high court, serving as chief judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit — a frequent source of justices that is sometimes called the "little Supreme Court."
Widely regarded as a moderate, Garland had been praised in the past by many Republicans, including influential senators such as Orrin Hatch of Utah.
But even before Obama had named Garland, and in fact only hours after Scalia's death was announced, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared any appointment by the sitting president to be null and void. He said the next Supreme Court justice should be chosen by the next president — to be elected later that year. In a speech that August in Kentucky, McConnell would say: "One of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.' "

Did you know Trump is a word? I didn't. Not until recently that is. I was watching Eyewitness News tonight and some New York City Official (didn't get his name) was talking about Mayor Bill deBlasio and complaining about him, and in particular about his handling of New York City Public Schools and opening them, and this guy said deBlasio was doing a terrible job, and he called Mayor deBlasio "Trumpy." Wow, I started laughing, and wondering if it was a word. So I go laptop out, went to Google and punched in Trumpy. Look at what it says Trumpy is in The Urban Dictionary.
The URBAN DICTIONARY : Adjective - Resembling the 45th President of The United States (Donald Trump) physically, emotionally, and / or psychologically.
Used in a sentence - Dam that dude has Trumpy hair.
WORDSENSE says - Adjective - Characteristic of Donald Trump.
I tried searching Trumpy on the Meriam Webster Dictionary website and when I punch "Trumpy" into the search box, the word Trumpery came out. Funny thing, it's and old definition, but it describes Donald Trump to a tee.
