Trump Visits Vegas

NEVEDA is TRUMP COUNTRY

As part of the first presidential trip of his second term in office, President Donald Trump is visiting Las Vegas, Neva., today to thank the state for their support in his reelection and speak on his plans in office.

Trump defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris, winning 312 electoral votes to Harris' 226, to become the 47th president of the United States. During his seven battleground state sweep in the presidential election, Trump won Nevada, a Democrat-leaning battleground state, by a similar percentage margin to his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Although Trump lost the Democrat-favored Clark County in 2024, he gained noticeable ground compared to his 2016 and 2020 presidential runs — shrinking the percentage deficit by nearly four-fold.

This shift mirrored national trends from the 2024 presidential election when Trump made significant inroads into Democrat-controlled counties. In Democrat stronghold Bronx County, New York, Trump received 27% of the vote in 2024, shrinking his margin of defeat compared to the 9% he received in 2016 and the 15% he won in 2020.

The last time a Republican presidential candidate won in Clark County was in 1988 when then-presidential candidates George H.W. Bush (R) defeated Michael Dukakis (D) by a margin of 15.51%. Since the 1988 election, Bush’s victory in Nevada remains the greatest margin over an opponent with a nearly 21% delta. Within that same time frame, former President Barack Obama had the largest margin in Clark County, with a nearly 19% advantage over his opponent in 2008.

The president stopped by North Carolina and California to assess damages caused by Hurricane Helene and the Los Angeles wildfiresbefore his visit to the Silver State. During his stop in North Carolina, Trump voiced the idea of reducing or eliminating the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“FEMA has really let us down, let the country down,” Trump told reporters in separate remarks upon landing in Asheville. “Probably less FEMA, because FEMA just hasn’t done the job. And we’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA.”

In California, the president said the scene looked as if it “got hit by a bomb” and pledged to offer support, with contingencies, blaming the response on California leadership.

In a Day One memorandum, the Trump administration declared that California leaders were putting fish over people, attributing insufficient water for firefighting efforts to protections for the Delta smelt, a fish found only in the San Francisco Estuary, and other fish species that prevented “enormous amounts of water” from Northern California from being used in the Central Valley and Southern California.

“Mis- and disinformation I don’t think advantages or aids any of us," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) earlier this month in response to Trump’s concerns of the Delta smelt. "Somehow connecting the Delta smelt to this fire is inexcusable because it’s inaccurate. Also, incomprehensible to anyone that understands water policy in the state.”

Since taking office on Monday, Trump has signed dozens of executive orders, largely targeting immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border, announced the formation of the Stargate AI infrastructure project, and granted about 1,500 pardons for those involved in violent and nonviolent crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Will Trump Kill the Penny

Is It Time to KILL The PENNY ???

There has been speculation for some years about the lowly cent coin and whether it will be abolished. The best indication of this is the official U.S Mint report for 2021 which indicates that the true cost of each cent coin to the taxpayers is 2.1 cents while even the five-cent piece (nickel) comes in at 8.5 cents. These numbers alone put both coins at risk though the cent is the leading candidate for the firing squad.

This public awareness of the cent, once it disappears from daily use, will also lead to increased collector activity. Many of those who acquire large numbers of cents will be content to stay at that point and simply expand their cent holding. Others will discover equally interesting aspects of American coinage, such as the Buffalo or Jefferson nickels. Many will realize that the nickel is also an endangered species. The ongoing serious inflation now affecting the United States, as well as other countries, may choose the nickel as the next target to do without in the marketplace.

There is a counter-argument on another outcome alongside the cent interest. At present, there is considerable pressure from governments around the world to do away with physical money, both coins, and banknotes, to achieve a truly digital economy. This idea is dear to the hearts of the treasuries and their taxing capabilities. It is unlikely that the United States will ever reach this plateau of monetary affairs. The uncertainty is what makes the public interested in such matters.

What, then, of the semi-distant future, say 20 or 30 years from now?

This will depend on the ability of the government to bring the present inflation under control. The five-cent piece (nickel) is in danger of being abolished.

20th CENTURY EVENTS of The "PENNY"

he twentieth century did produce additional interest in the cent. The introduction of the Lincoln cent design in 1909 meant that the Indian Head cent of 1859–1909 would gradually leave the marketplace in favor of the new design. The writer’s grandmother, for example, began to pull Indian Head cents from her change in the late 1920s as no doubt did many other people.

Even until the 1940s one could occasionally find an Indian Head cent in a bankroll or in circulation.

By 1950 this was almost never the case except when a child managed to use some of a parent’s coin collection for candy or other necessities in that far-off era.

What, then, will happen when the cent is abolished? My prediction is that the same will happen as was the case in 1857. The value of the cent is so low in terms of modern wages that a great many people will go to the banks and buy up all of the cents that can be found to acquire as many dates as possible.

Those putting aside date runs of cents will also soon learn that there was a major change in the cent alloy in 1982. From a brass cent composed of copper and zinc, but mostly copper, the alloy was changed to a copper-coated zinc planchet containing less than one percent copper. These discoveries will lead to further interest in varieties of the cent, such as the famous 1955 double-die obverse.

BITCOIN CRYPTO UP

On TRUMP PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

Cryptocurrencies climbed on Tuesday as bullish investor sentiment returned on President Donald Trump’s first full day back in office.

The price of bitcoin was last higher by more than 2% at $106,403.65, according to Coin Metrics. The broader crypto market, as measured by the CoinDesk 20 index, rose nearly 2%.

Meanwhile, “Official Trump,” a token launched last week that represents the new U.S. leader, cut its loss over the past 24 hours to less than 3%, after tumbling more than 20% earlier, according to CoinGecko.

The Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday afternoon announced that acting Chair Mark Uyeda has launched a “crypto task” force focused on “developing a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for crypto assets.”

Crypto investors have hailed Trump’s arrival to the White House as a positive moment for the industry. The president has promised to introduce policies supportive of cryptocurrencies, including an accommodating regulatory framework and a federal bitcoin hoard.

Trump’s inauguration Monday lacked any concrete policy announcements regarding the sector. Initially, that appeared to take the wind out of the crypto market’s sails.

Kenneth Lamont, a principal at Morningstar, warned investors not to jump into crypto trading without being properly informed about the risks involved.

“If Donald Trump delivers on his election promises, we could see cryptocurrency markets continue to surge. However, investors would do well to resist the siren call of fear of missing out, and sit on their hands,” Lamont said in emailed comments Tuesday.

Cryptocurrencies are known to be volatile. Bitcoin, the world’s largest digital coin, has previously risen or fallen by thousands of dollars in a single day.

President Trump declared that going forward it will “be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”

Trump will sign executive orders on Monday ending diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the federal government and instituting a policy recognizing individuals’ biological sex rather than their expressed gender identity.

Gaza Ceasefire EVE of TRUMP INAUGURATION

3 ISRAELI HOSTAGES ARRIVE IN ISRAEL

Israel's prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a ceasefire between Israel's military and Hamas has begun.

The Israeli government announced the ceasefire with Hamas took effect at 11:15 local time (4:15 am US ET) — around three hours after the originally scheduled time for hostilities to cease.

The ceasefire was supposed to have gone into effect at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, but before then Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted Israel did not consider the terms of the agreement valid and enforceable until Hamas had handed over a list of the names of hostages to be released today.

Under the agreement, Hamas was supposed to hand them over on Saturday. They did eventually, and as of 2:30 p.m. local time, the ceasefire appeared to be holding.

A statement issued on Telegram after that initial deadline by the Al Qassem Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, identified three Israeli women the group would release on Sunday, part of the group of nearly 100 hostages still believed to be held by Hamas.

The Israeli government confirmed it had received a list of hostages, and that family members were being notified.

Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a group representing families of people held hostage, released the names of the three Israeli women expected to gain their freedom back today.

The three hostages to be released Sunday are Romi Gonen, 24, who was kidnapped at the Nova music festival that Hamas militants stormed on Oct. 7, 2023; Emily Damari, a British-Israeli citizen who was abducted the same day by militants attacking Kfar Aza, a small Israeli community — known as a kibbutz — close to Gaza; and Doron Steinbrecher, 31, who was also taken from Kfar Aza.

According to a statement from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, Gonen "loves dancing, traveling, and enjoying life. Friends and family describe her as energetic, funny, family-oriented, and full of life."

Friends of Damari describe her as "well-loved and popular, a friend to everyone. Emily enjoys barbecuing, karaoke nights, and loves hats," according to the same statement. She was abducted along with her friends Gali and Ziv Berman, who remain in captivity.

Steinbrecher is a veterinary nurse, according to the group's statement, and "has cared for animals since childhood, when she helped at the school's petting zoo. She loves sports, especially running, and goes for early morning runs around the kibbutz every Saturday." The group said her family considered her a devoted aunt to her nephews.

Throughout the morning, surveillance drones flew over Gaza and the Israeli military reported strikes in the territory. NPR confirmed that a jeep belonging to the Al Qassem Brigades was struck.

The spokesman for Gaza's Hamas-controlled civil defense, Mahmoud Basal, said Israeli attacks had killed a total of 19 people across various parts of the Gaza Strip on Sunday morning.

The Israeli military also said it carried out a special operation alongside the country's domestic intelligence service that helped recover the body of an infantry soldier called Oron Shaul. He had been killed during clashes with Hamas in 2014. The group is still holding 97 abductees inside Gaza. Most of those were seized on Oct. 7, 2023, but others were taken hostage in the preceding decade, and a substantial number are no longer alive.

In Jerusalem, the far right Otzma Yehudit party released a statement saying its leader, former National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, was making good on his threat to leave Netanyahu's governing coalition, and he would take his party's ministers with him. The statement called the ceasefire deal a "victory for terrorism."
